The indexer wars, without the marketing

Block 0 versus May 2023, 21 million versus 2.1 billion, and why both sides can be locally correct.

Every schism in inscriptions is a schism about where to start the tape. Doge Labs and allied wallets index from Shibescription #0 and treat the March 2023 21 million DOGI as first-seen, therefore final. Other stacks began in May, when tooling was less feral, and inherited a second dogi with a 2.1 billion cap.

Neither camp can appeal to Dogecoin Core. There is no opcode for “ticker already deployed.” There is only first-seen-wins inside a particular program. We record both programs. We do not baptize either as physics.

First-seen-wins is a rule you choose. Choose it from genesis and the spring of 2023 counts. Choose it from May and you have a cleaner mint graph and a different aristocracy. State the window or you are doing propaganda.

The random subsidy of the first 145,000 blocks is why honest people shipped late. That is not a moral excuse for erasing March. It is the technical reason the erasure was tempting.
