Is a Doginal “real,” or only collectively imagined?
On metaprotocols, node software, and the manners of a market.
A Dogecoin node will tell you whether a transaction pays a valid script. It will not tell you whether Shibescription #41208 is “yours,” whether a mint exceeded a ticker’s cap, or whether an image is inscribed at all. Those facts live in software that volunteers to watch.
A Doginal is real as a social object the moment two indexers, a wallet, and a buyer agree on the same bytes. That is thinner than a consensus rule and thicker than a tweet. It is how every inscription culture actually works — Bitcoin’s included.

If your node cannot see it, call it a metaprotocol. If a market will not clear without it, call it real enough. Holding both sentences in one head is the whole skill.

DRC-20 balances are not in the UTXO set. They are in a notebook we all pretend is public. Lose the notebook, keep the chain, lose the coin.

People wanted Ethereum convenience on a chain that refused smart contracts. They got a JSON cargo cult. Some cargo cults move billions. That does not make the ritual a virtual machine.
